About the Exhibition:

The realms of art and science share a common purpose: to harness curiosity and creativity in order to gain a greater understanding of the world we live in. I-Park’s Visualizing Change has joined forces with ClimateHaven’s Planetary Expressions to showcase work that marries scientific inquiry with artistic interpretations to help heal our planet.

Just as ClimateHaven's glass-walled space helps bring the outside world into focus, the works shown here cast a critical eye on the effect that climate change is having on our planet.  From images of hope, such as birds seeking out clean air and fresh water, to scorched landscapes and other depictions of near apocalyptic loss, these pieces document the crisis that is overtaking our planet and the outcome that awaits us if action isn’t taken.

We see Alice Momm’s kudzu vines woven into invasive, climate-damaging cells; puzzles of nature within dead tree branches, by Anthony Heinz May, a testament to the resilience of the ecosystem; Pat Brentano shows us natural habitats, and their inhabitants, reimagined; Guido Garaycochea's urban footprint are being met with renewal; and Paul Farmer’s studies of lichen, offering significant ecological benefits. In each instance, and more, Visualizing Change feels like another step in making change happen.

This Exhibition is brought to you by ClimateHaven, where scientific minds harness technology to advance the fight against climate change, and I-Park, a 450-acre International retreat in East Haddam where artists can immerse themselves in nature and create pieces that respond to it. Curator Nancy Pinney is an artist, gallerist, and longtime I-Park contributor, who owns and operates the Chester Gallery in Chester, Connecticut.
